Disseminate: My Presenation

I had no idea what I was going to do for my presentation. I had a lot of interests and things I would have liked to have talked about, but I had no idea how I was going to make my ramblings last a whole ten minutes. Instead of doing this, I decided to take the opportunity to research a new animation technique, because not only would this be useful to me, it meant that I could have enough material to present. I chose Rotoscoping.

I'd heard of Rotoscoping before, but I only knew the very basics. I looked into the technique and what it could be used for, when it came about and good examples of where the technique had been used. I found researching the process to be quite entertaining and I was able to find enough content to present, so I put it together in Google Slides and rehearsed what I was going to say.

The presentation went better than expected actually. I was too nervous to function, but somehow managed to get through the ten minutes. I stumbled over my words a lot and noticed that I said "erm" quite a lot due to my nerves and when I tried to cut down on the amount of times I said it I stumbled even more. I'm glad that I did it though, because I really want to overcome my "fear" of public speaking, and I think it will be a great trait to have. I think it would have been better for me if I didn't have to remember my research and if I would have chose a topic that I knew what I was talking about maybe then I wouldn't have stumbled so much. The only thing I could have done would have been to not be as nervous (which will hopefully happen in time) or to have rehearsed my presentation a bit more. It also would have been a good idea to check that my GIFs still worked once I had downloaded the presentation. I checked to see if they worked in the browser when I was rehearsing, but completely forgot when it came to downloading the file, which was a shame because they would have helped explain Rotoscoping a bit easier.

Disseminate: Studio Brief

In yesterday evening's PPP meeting, we were presented with a new studio brief. For this brief we are required to give a ten minute presentation on a topic of our choice (obviously animation related though). We have to pick out what we like/dislike about the work/s, stating why, and comment on our research findings as well as the technique and production of the animation.

As much as the thought of presenting to a class scares the living daylights out of me, I really like the sound of this brief and I'm quite looking forward to it. I will be able to have 10 minutes of undivided attention to talk about something I enjoy. All I need to do now is decide on what I'm going to talk about, which is easier said than done.

We were also given a few tips on giving presentations, which basically consisted of BE ENTHUSIASTIC and concise. We were told not to stress too much about the presentation, and if you find yourself worrying about it or lacking the confidence at the front of the class then "put on a different hat". Which, again, is easier said than done, especially if you have social skills that are on par with a carrot. Having said this, I AM rather excited to get started with this brief, so maybe, just maybe, I've gained some confidence and people skills. Maybe.

BRING IT.
